I am a multi-award winning expert witness and author specialising in the assessment of mental capacity. A registered mental health nurse, I have over 30 years experience of working with adults and children who are experiencing poor mental health, impaired cognition and reduced mental capacity. I have undertaken in excess of 3500 capacity assessments.
I undertake face to face mental capacity assessments and deliver training on the same. I also provided the section on mental capacity for the Professional Deputies Forum accreditation training. I cover the whole of the UK and have also travelled abroad to conduct capacity assessments and repatriate incapacitated individuals.
My book, ‘Grandpa on a Skateboard: the practicalities of assessing mental capacity and unwise decisions’ is considered a core text on the subject and my proprietary models have been adopted across the industry and the ‘CMSL’ is included in ‘The Mental Capacity Toolkit’ by Bournemouth University and the Burdett Nursing Trust. In 2022, I presented at the International Congress on Adult Capacity and I regularly deliver training to legal, financial and health professionals.
I also provide consultancy services to the health, legal and financial sectors and am part of Project Nemo (making banking more accessible for people with learning disabilities).
