The PDF funded an appeal by Kingsley Napley in challenging three regular reductions made by Costs Officers on assessment, namely time spent approving payments by the Deputy, time spent checking bank statements and time spent reconciling accounts. Clarion represented the Deputy at the hearing, which was a success.
The hearing before Master Whalan concerned three issues:
Time spent authorising payments by the Grade A Deputy, claimed at 3 minutes per payment
Time spent conducting financial reviews in accordance with the SRA, claimed at 6 minutes per task.
Time spent reconciling bank statements and transactions, claimed at 6-12 minutes per statement
Stephanie Kaye of Clarion represented the Deputy in the hearing. The hearing was funded by the Professional Deputies Forum due to the interest of all Deputies in the outcome.
The PDF are proud to support hearings like this to challenge inconsistencies at the SCCO and bring about positive change for Deputies to enable the sustainability of the profession.
